There is a mystery surrounding the origins and naming of Seagram's V.O., one of the most well-known whiskies produced at Joseph E. Seagram's former Waterloo Distillery. Family tradition states that "V.O." stands for "Very Own," as this was a whisky blend created for Joseph E. Seagram's own family. Others claim that the initials stand for "Very Old" in keeping with the distiller’s assertion that is was a blend of very old Canadian Whiskies.
The story tells how Joseph's son, Thomas, had the distillery's blender, William Hortop, prepare a whisky blend for his personal use to celebrate his upcoming marriage in 1913 to Dorothy Pearson. Upon tasting the special blend, Joseph insisted that the family blend be put on the market. It went on to become one of Seagram's biggest sellers.

Gentlemen, the 2025 season is also our 26th. Many of you know The Ryder Cup took exception to us using The Senior Ryder Cup on the website. As a result, we have had to rebrand our website. A challenge for sure, but it should all work out. Now we will no longer be confused with any of them! As players we are still the Senior Ryder Cup.
Hopefully you will find that it is a good year for you and your club. I want to point out that less than half of the money we need to run the Senior Ryder Cup comes from our $20 per game dues. That is why we have sponsors. Many sponsors are available to us but only a few are willing to provide cash. The rest provide products that we use to enhance our Playoffs and our Championships. Without these sponsors we could not run the Senior Ryder Cup to the standards that we are used to.
Sponsors expect and deserve a reasonable level of return for their products or monies and that is where you come in. Support them when you can, refer them to family and friends, try their products and ask your club pro shop and restaurant to carry their products. If you do that, we will continue to be successful. Without the companies we list below the Senior Ryder Cup would not exist.
